Laura Etherton

Health Policy Advocate, OSPIRG

Laura Etherton was actively involved in the development and passage of Oregon's 2009 landmark health reform legislation to expand coverage, tackle rising costs and promote quality care. She has led OSPIRG's work at the state level to stop predatory lending practices, strengthen identity theft protections for consumers, and reduce prescription drug costs through expansion of the Oregon Prescription Drug Program. Previously, she led field efforts to stop rollbacks to the nation’s landmark environmental and public health protections.

Recent publications include the 2009 study, "Premiums on the Rise: An Analysis of Health Insurance Premium Increases Facing Individuals and Small Businesses in Oregon," and the 2008 report, "More for Your Money: How the Oregon Health Fund Board's Draft Health Reform Plan Reins in Skyrocketing Health Care Costs."
