Rep. Sara Gelser

District 16, Oregon House of Representatives

Rep. Sara Gelser has served in the Oregon Legislature since 2005, representing Philomath and Corvallis. In addition to serving on the Rules and Revenue Committees, Sara is chair of the House Education Committee and serves as Assistant Majority Leader.

In her first session, Sara passed Karly’s Law, which transformed child abuse investigation procedures across the state and a Medicaid waiver that allows children with severe disabilities to grow up in their family homes rather than foster care or nursing facilities. In the most recent session, she passed sweeping legislation to address chronic abuse and neglect of seniors and people with disabilities in state paid care. Sara earned her BA in history and education from Earlham College in Richmond, Indiana, and an MAIS degree from Oregon State University. She lives in Corvallis with her husband, Peter, and their four young children.
